Dedicated to Mahadev Shiv, it was constructed between 1070 and 1086 CE under the patronage of King Udayaditya of the Paramara dynasty. Elevated on a high platform, the temple features a square sanctum, an antechamber, and a large hall with projecting windows adorned by seats on the north, east, and south sides. The tower (shikhar) is crowned by four primary spires, with the spaces between them filled by seven levels of five miniature spires.
